Program Training
Build enthusiasm and confidence among your Art Docents by providing them with a training session. You will get the most out of your Art Docent Program, ensuring a rewarding experience for Docents and students alike.
Our training sessions are presented by experienced Art Docents Amy Scherschligt and Heidi Grasty, daughters of the developer of the Art Docent Program, Barbara Herberholz. Amy and Heidi have received intensive instruction from their mom and are very capable, enthusiastic and professional. Their sessions include how to prepare for and give a successful portfolio presentation and how to teach the hands-on art lesson.
Docents will watch Amy give an actual lesson and follow it up with games and activities that engage the students in language arts, social studies and other curriculum-related content. They will learn how to make their lessons interactive and fun for the students. Heidi will demonstrate how to use all the art materials, show examples of all 56 art projects and give the Docents the opportunity to make the art themselves. Some of the lessons are specialized - soda straw weaving, perspective, print making, tissue paper collage – and seeing a demo makes all the difference. Docents will leave the training session with examples of the art projects, and more importantly, the confidence that they can teach it to students.
Training sessions can be customized to meet your needs and schedule. They can be offered annually to your Docents. Please contact us for rates and details.

"Many schools no longer have art teachers. If not for the Art Docent Program, many students would not have the opportunity to make and learn about art."
